As an essential part of our country’s regional economy，the midland region has played an important role in serving as a link between the east and west in the comprehensive，coordinated and sustainable development of regional economy. However，within the midland region，there still exist prominent problems related to incomprehensive，uncoordinated and unsustainable development of regional economy，for example，the looseness of cooperation organizations，the homogeneousness of industry structure，the absence of economic links，the contradiction between resources and environment，and so forth. It has been a key problem when discussing the midland regional development in this new period that how to solve the existing problems in the midland region’s economic development process，how to blaze a comprehensive，coordinated and sustainable economy development trail，and what kind of policies would be able to promote healthy competition and active cooperation within the midland region.
