In the information age，city data is an important resource，capital and asset of a city. Fully apply city data in policy decision-making，management and innovation can improve the competitiveness and achieve sustainable development of a city. This paper analyzes an international model of city data application，the City Data Strategy of London，and draws inspiration from it to put forward six suggestions for the data application of national central cities：giving full play to the leading role of government in the central cities，establishing a shared city data platform，developing a dynamic data market，building an effective data governance system，protecting citizens’ data privacy，and promoting collaborative innovation based on city data.
