“印太战略”是澳大利亚战略目标转向亚太及印度洋地区的重要体现，也是澳大利亚巩固和推进其“海上贸易帝国战略”的战略选择。而位于西北太平洋地区的帕劳不仅是澳大利亚进入东南亚和印度洋的枢纽，也是其“第二岛链”的重要组成部分，因此，帕劳成为澳大利亚推进“印太战略”的“利益攸关”地区。为把帕劳拉进其“印太战略”圈，澳大利亚通过政治互动、经济援助等方式加强了与帕劳的关系。此外，密切与帕劳的伙伴关系，也是澳大利亚巩固澳美同盟、共同遏制中国在太平洋岛屿地区影响力上升的重要方式。
The “Indo-Pacific strategy” is an important embodiment of Australia’s strategic goal turning to the Asia-Pacific region and the Indian Ocean region. It is also a strategic choice for Australia to consolidate and promote its “Maritime Trading Empire strategy”. Palau，located in the northwest Pacific Ocean，is not only the hub of Australia’s entry into southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean，but also an important part of the so-called “Second Island Chain”. Therefore，Palau has become a “stakeholder” for Australia to promote its “Indo-Pacific strategy”. In order to bring Palau into its “Indo-Pacific strategy”，Australia strengthens its relationship with Palau through political interaction and economic assistance. In addition，closer partnership with Palau is also an important step for Australia to consolidate its alliance with the United States and balance China’s influence in the Pacific Islands region.
