The Greater Mekong Subregion(GMS)cooperation based on the demand of regional development is restricted by political, economic and cultural factors in the process of promotion. Kunming-Bangkok Channel is the central line of the south-north economic corridor of GMS,which was jointly promoted by the Asian Development Bank and China to connect China and ASEAN(the Association of Southeast Asian Nations). But since its opening in 2013,it has been difficult to break through the bottleneck of development. The restrictions on the development of Kunming-Bangkok Channel reflect the universality of GMS development from one side. Moreover, the different demands and institutional differences of various countries on the Mekong River are the political factors that restrict the GMS development. The gap between countries in the level of economic development is difficult to form complementarity, resulting in a long-term stagnation of regional cooperation at this stage. Different understandings of the development of different countries make it difficult for regional forces to coordinate and integrate. Although there are various constraints, economic demand will break through layers of constraints, and promote the deepening of regional cooperation, once the door to economic cooperation is opened. There are still broad prospects for development of Kunming-Bangkok Channel between China and Thailand.
