韩国和日本是东北亚地缘战略棋局中的重要国家。两国之间的关系受到各种因素的制约，其中海洋权益争端是其中一个非常重要的因素，而独岛争端又是日韩海洋权益争端的核心问题。近年来随着韩日两国各自推行更加积极的海洋战略，独岛争端对日韩双边关系乃至地区战略格局的影响依然存在，并有可能导致新的摩擦，而这种可能发生的摩擦则会在很大程度上反作用于韩日关系，并进而影响东北亚地区的海权战略格局。
Both ROK and Japan are important players of the geopolitical game in East Asia.The relation between these two countries is constrained by various factors，of which maritime rights dispute is a very important factor.The dispute on Dokdo Island is the core issue of the tension between Japan and ROK.Recently，with the implementation of more active martime strategies from both side，the influence of the Dokdo dispute on the bilateral relationship and even the regional strategic pattern still exists.New friction may be triggered because of this dispute，which will adversely affect the relation between ROK and Japan to large extent.This may eventually affect the strategic posture of maritime power in East Asia.
