As a young city，Songyuan has made great progress in economic and social development. But in recent years，due to the shrinking of the international oil and gas market and the downside of the northeast economy，the development of the pillar industry has been seriously restricted. However，the pharmaceutical and new energy industries failed to form effective support，which led to the continuous decline of Songyuan's comprehensive competitiveness ranking. In 2016，Songyuan's ecological competitiveness index，global competitiveness index and cultural competitiveness index were better，and its advantages were brought into full play. But the competitiveness index of knowledge city and information city has been a short board of development，and its sustainable competitiveness is not strong enough. In the future，Songyuan needs to improve its comprehensive competitiveness by speeding up the industrial transformation，consolidating the ecological advantages and improving the business environment.
