进入21世纪以来，随着全球化的深化，在全球范围内涌现出越来越多的世界城市。本文将公认的世界城市研究权威组织GaWC（全球化与世界城市研究网络）2017年4月最新发布的世界城市排名，与其之前2000年开始的5轮排名进行对比，梳理了2000～2016年世界城市的发展演进特点。在全世界范围，16年间进入世界城市行列的城市由227个增长到361个，增幅近6成。中国入列的世界城市从2000年6个增长到2016年的33个，实现近5倍的增长，总量上仅次于美国。香港、北京、上海都具备了冲击顶级“全球城市”的条件。
With the roaring development of globalization，there are more and more world cities springing up throughout the world. Based on six-world-city lists published by Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network（GaWC）from 2000，the paper summarized the characteristics of world cities' development from 2000 to 2016. In the world，the number of the world cities rises rapidly from 227 in 2000 to 361 in 2016. In China，the number rises from 6 in 2000 to 33 in 2016，which is only less than America. Hong Kong，Beijing and Shanghai all have the capacities to become new global cities.
