2001～2016年，南非国家创新竞争力有所下降，在金砖五国中的排名从第3位降到第4位，预测未来5年南非国家综合创新指数将缓慢上升。目前，南非正努力借助新一轮科技革命和产业变革浪潮，对内出台刺激科技创新的政策举措，加快自身工业化和现代化进程，对外加强国际科技合作，为南非科技创新增添新动力。中国和南非两国科技创新合作经过近20年发展，在机制建设、重点领域合作、资助联合研发项目、举办联合展会等方面卓有成效，在航天科技和科技惠及民生领域取得一些示范性成果。
From 2001 to 2016，the Innovation Competitiveness ranking of South Africa fell from the 3rd place to the 4th among BRICS countries. The next five years，however，will foresee its Comprehensive Innovation Index edging up. Currently，South Africa is harnessing a new round of technology and industrial revolution. On the one hand，it relies on new policies to stimulate science，technology and innovation to help it move faster on the industrial and modernization path. On the other，its intensified efforts on international science and technology cooperation is generating new driving force for its innovation. China and South Africa shared nearly 20 years of cooperation on science，technology and innovation，which delivered effective results in cooperation mechanism，cooperation in key areas，joint research funding，and joint organization of exhibitions and conventions，etc.. In particular，the two countries have produced demonstration projects in space technology and science and technology for people’s well-being.
