Guangzhou is viewed as a first-tier city in terms of the breadth and depth of financial institutions as well as objective indicators like financial sector added value. This study，analyzes the gap between Guangzhou and international financial center cities with the method of comparing the financial industry development pattern in Dalian and Qingdao in the view of Global Financial Centers Index （GFCI）. Existing problems in Guangzhou's regional financial center construction strategy such as valuing hardware while overlooking software，incomplete industry chains，lack of landmark products and unsubstantial high-end talents strategy have constrained the radiating function of Guangzhou's financial industry in the region. Based on research above，countermeasures are proposed for Guangzhou to further strengthen the construction of international financial center city.
