This chapter discusses leisure and outdoor recreation in Australia. It firstly discusses trends in sport and physical recreation，as well as cultural activities. Next the role of the government in these activities is discussed，at three levels，Federal，State and Local Government levels. The reason why governments in Australia are discussed and two case studies of local government recreation activities are provided.
