In order to promote Macau as the World Centre of Tourism and Leisure，the Macau SAR government has been fully dedicated to developing diversified tourist products for the enrichment of tourist experience in Macau. The impetus is to develop a more balanced international tourist portfolio，enhance tourism quality and tourist experience，as well as to foster a sustainable development of the tourism industry. As a result，the Macau Government Tourism Office（MGTO）introduced the project “Step Out，Experience Macau’s Communities-Walking Tour Routes” for the first time in 2013 and expanded to include 8 walking tour routes in 2015 in order to encourage tourists to explore various communities in Macau. By doing so，it is hoped that tourist flows can be channeled into the older parts of the communities；which will in turn stimulate a more balanced tourism development and alleviate capacity stress from the traditional hot tourist attractions. Although this project is not the only community tourism development measure，its reputation and impact have been highly recognized. As such，the major objective of this chapter is to explore how this initiative can be integrated to achieve sustainable community development，diversified tourist experience as well as enhanced tourism environment. Therefore，the authors suggest that the achievement of effective and sustainable community tourism development can be attained by minimizing conflicts between tourism development and community culture；balancing benefits for local residents and tourists；raising community awareness towards community tourism development through increased participation and training. At the end，it is hoped that the living environment and quality can be improved through this tourism-community synergetic development.
