Quiet diplomacy has attracted more and more attention in the international community because of its increasingly important role in recent years. There’re many reasons why quiet diplomacy is popular in Southeast Asia. For example，leaders of Southeast Asian countries attach great importance to the issues about the “face” and reputation. Most Southeast Asian countries are endowed with a strong modernity. Many traditional security problems can’t be solved in a short term. Southeast Asian countries want to remain united to better hedge powers outside of South-East Asia. Quiet diplomacy in Southeast Asia can be found at least three levels，among ASEAN countries，ASEAN，and ASEAN（member countries）with extra-regional countries. It has shown that ASEAN countries highligt great importance of their sovereignty，nonintervention in managing traditional security issues，and openness in cooperation concerning about non-traditional security issues. Quiet diplomacy is one of the useful ways of developing and maintaining good cooperative relations between China and ASEAN. The two parties have the tradition and experience of conducting quiet diplomacy，which has been recognized broadly. However，quiet diplomatic policy between China and ASEAN shouldered great pressure in the following issues，managing territorial disputes in South China Sea，promoting regional security and stability，enhancing regional security confidence and trust，and boosting cooperation in non-traditional security issues. Quiet diplomacy between China and ASEAN countries will continue and develop，making due contributions to promoting and enhancing the bilateral strategic partnership.
