文莱位于东南亚马来群岛加里曼丹岛的西北部，全国划分为4个大区，沿海为狭长平原，内地多山，属热带雨林气候，全年高温多雨。文莱是东南亚人口最少的国家，外来民族的人数已大大超过土著民族———达雅克人，主要有马来族和华族。马来语是文莱的官方语言，大多数人信仰伊斯兰教。斯里巴加湾市是文莱的首都。
