The situation of poverty is still serious in China，and how to win the poverty battle is a common concern of politicians，academics and the general public. As we know，only government can effectively deal with this problem，and this paper discusses using one of social support resources—overseas Chinese resources to solve the poverty problem. Firstly，overseas Chinese have the culture，talent，capital and technological advantages，which accord with the demand for poverty alleviation from a theoretical perspective. Secondly，taking Jishishan county as an example，it has received donation ￥117.4 million with the help of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council by the end of 2015. Specifically，contributing money is more than ￥27 million，introductory funding is ￥84.8 million，and contributing goods amounted to ￥4.8 million. This county has built up 29 primary schools，7 hospitals and restored 836 old houses deemed dangerous using these donations. Moreover，Jishishan County has received donations intended for 19 projects amounting to ￥10 million，and 4 cooperative investment projects amounted to ￥92.8 million. Also，it has received manpower support and professional skills training for employees of Jishishan County from Jinan University and Huaqiao University. Overall，the poverty alleviation work of Overseas Chinese has been focused in the following areas—education and health care. Finally，analyzing the problems of poverty alleviation，this thesis gives suggestions of depending on the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council，paying attention to grass-roots governments and concerning collaboration with NGOs.
