The Québec issue is a hidden political peril that has puzzled the Canadian Federal Government. The estrangement and conflict between French and English Canadians is a problem left over from Canadian colonial history and triggered French Canadian nationalist movement in Québec. Since the 1960s,the French Canadian nationalist movement focused on the issue of the relationship between Québec and the Federal Government. The Parti Québécois which advocates independence for the Canadian province of Québec lost the 2014 Provincial election in Québec. During the period of time Pierre Karl Péladeau campaigned for and acted as leader of the Parti Québécois from 2015 to 2016,Québec sovereignty movement became more and more radical. But it is now at a low ebb due to the resignation of Pierre Karl Péladeau on May 2nd,2016. Justin Trudeau’s clear-cut political stand in opposing independence of Québec and the rise of public support for his Liberal Party of Canada restrain the development of the Québec sovereignty movement. However, the Québec issue will exist for a long time, judging by the history and current situation of the Quebec sovereignty movement.
