2009～2013年，诸多地中海离岸天然气田的发现在以色列引发了一场“天然气革命”。天然气的开发不仅直接给以色列带来了良好的经济效益，一定程度上保障了国家的能源安全，而且使以色列成为潜在的能源出口大国，进而为以色列开展地区外交合作提供了新机遇。但以色列开展能源外交面临着国内政策争执、海上边界争端、地区热点干扰与安全问题等多方面的挑战。总体来看，以色列借助能源合作来稳定与周边国家的关系具有可行性，并且在当前情况下取得了一定进展。能源外交有助于推动地区各国间的关系朝着和平、稳定、合作的方向发展。
Between 2009 and 2013，the discoveries of offshore natural gas fields in the Levant area ignited a gas revolution in Israel. The development of natural gas fields benefits Israeli economy in a direct way. The natural gas deposits guaranteed Israel’s energy security in some degree and made Israel a potential energy exporter. This newly discovered resource has offered a new opportunity for Israel to conduct regional diplomacy. Israel has faced many challenges when launching energy diplomacy，specifically disputes on domestic policy and maritime boundaries，interference from regional hotspots and security issues regionally. On the whole，energy diplomacy has a positive prospect which can help Israel stabilize its relations with the neighboring countries via energy cooperation. Progresses have been made under the present complicated situation in the East Mediterranean sea，though troubles will continue.
