For the past few centuries,the topic of integration of immigrants in Germany was not the focus of public discussions.At the turn of the century,the German major political parties,politicians,religious groups,academic institutions,media and immigrant groups started an extensive debate over this topic.In recent years,the debate has focused on the relationship between religious and cultural characteristics of Muslim and the mainstream culture.This paper analyzes the controversial views in the debate trying to reveal the underlying concerns about the Islamization of German society and its far-reaching impact on the future situation of immigrants and immigration policy.
