延坪岛炮击事件虽然是一次“局部军事冲突”，但却是韩国领土首次遭到朝鲜的直接打击，且造成重大人员伤亡和财产损失。它不仅震动了朝鲜半岛，也震惊了世界，使得天安舰事件以后原本就尖锐对抗的朝鲜半岛局势变得更加紧张。炮击事件之后，韩国军方和政府等部门采取了包括军事行动在内的各种后续对应措施，举行了一系列军演，以求谴责朝鲜、安抚国内民众、加强海防军事力量，应对朝鲜可能发动的攻击。韩国国防部在发布的《2010年国防白皮书》中，阐述了朝鲜政权和朝鲜军队是韩国的敌人的观念。2011年的朝鲜半岛局势紧张会依然持续，但不会爆发大规模的战争，国际社会打破坚冰的努力也会继续。
The Yeonpyeong Island Incident，a“local war”though，had been the first direct strike on the RK from DPRK，causing major casualties and tremendous loss of possessions. The incident had shocked not only the Korean Peninsula，but also the world at large，which had further intensified the confrontation on the Peninsula since the Cheonan Incident. The RKorea’s forces and the government had taken various measures，military ones included，to handle the situation subsequent to the artillery strike；moves such as military maneuver had also been conducted to calm the people and strengthen the sea defense against the possible attacks from the north. The White Paper of Defense，2010 issued by the Defense Ministry proclaimed that the DPRK“regime”and its forces were the RK’s enemies. It is anticipated that in 2011，the tension would remain，however，with slim possibilities for major warfare，and icebreaking endeavors of the international communities would continue.
