All the Benelux countries suffered some degree of economic recession. The financial crisis triggered a string of political crises in Belgium，which made the Leterme Government the first in the world to step down due to the financial crisis. The succeeding Van Rompuy Cabinet readjusted its policies to actively cope with the crisis. As for Luxembourg，the Christian Social People’s Party achieved an easy victory in the general election and the then Prime Minister Juncker was re-elected.
