10月结束的东盟国防部长扩大会议为地区安全合作提供了新的合作形式，对东盟和地区安全合作都有重要影响。作为地区首次官方安全合作的东盟国防部长扩大会议，通过确定5大合作领域，明确了务实目标。对东盟来说，这一举措是其内部一体化、应对大国竞争地区领导权和发挥东盟地区作用的需要。同时，东盟以东盟国防部长会议为中心，从制度设置等方面保证东盟的主导地位。东盟国防部长扩大会议得到了大国的认可，特别是中美两国的认可。新机制要想能够如期发挥作用还需要以下条件的配合：东盟自身较快的一体化建设；协调好与地区其他安全合作的关系；处理好东盟与大国的关系；提高务实合作的能力。
ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus（ADMM-Plus）in last October has provided the region with a new platform for the security cooperation.It is important for the region security cooperation，as well as for ASEAN.As the first official security cooperation in this region，ADMM+，with 5 priorities for the practical cooperation，is the requirement from Asean internal integration，competition with other regional security mechanisms and driving force status.Meanwhile，ADMM+ has been accepted by the big powers，especially the United States and China.However，the new cooperation’s future relies upon the Asean security community process，the division of labor with the existing cooperation，the relationship with big powers and the capacity building.
