“向东看”是土耳其对外政策调整的具体表现，即从完全倚重西方国家到重视发展与东方国家的关系，它是基于土耳其自身发展、加入欧盟受挫、新兴国家崛起等内外条件变化所作的一种选择。土耳其“向东看”是其“战略纵深”思想的具体实践，它反映了埃尔多安政府的执政理念及其国家发展定位，意欲凭借土耳其地缘优势和多重属性，构筑“战略纵深”，实现强国之梦。因此，土耳其的“向东看”并非“向东转”，而是一种“东西并进”的平衡外交。土耳其“向东看”的实施，不仅拓展了它的国际交往空间，而且提升了它在地区事务中的影响力，在一定程度上改变着中东地区的力量格局。然而，“向东看”究竟能在多大程度上改变土耳其的发展方向，其前景仍然是不确定的。
“Looking East” is the adjustment of Turkish diplomacy，i.e.from merely relying on the western world to develop the relations with the eastern countries，which is the choice by Turkey based on its own development，the difficulties when trying to join the EU and the rise of emerging powers.“Looking East” is the Erdogan administration’s idea about governance and development.By its geopolitics and multi nature，Turkey is trying to constructing “Strategic Depth” and a powerful state.In general，Turkey’s “looking East” is not “turning East”，but kind of balance diplomacy “both West and East”.In the long run，Turkey’s “looking East” would not only expand its ability dealing with the outside world，but also boosting its influence as a regional power，which will change the power structure of Middle East.However，whether or not “looking East” would change Turkey’s development direction is still uncertain.
