From 2023 to 2024,the number of immigrants entering the UK continued to rise. Although the long-term net migration figure decreased,it still remained at a high level comparable to that before the pandemic. This trend demonstrates the strong attractiveness of the UK as an immigration destination. During this period, the UK’s immigration policy shifted from relative leniency to greater strictness. This was specifically manifested in the strengthening of measures to deal with illegal immigrants and the enhancement of border control. After the Labour Party came into power, the controversial “Rwanda Plan” was cancelled, and a series of new strategies to address illegal immigration were introduced. However, the anti-immigration riots that broke out in 2024 revealed the deep-seated contradictions and widespread dissatisfaction within British society regarding the issue of immigration. The public expressed strong concerns about problems such as the inefficiency of the current immigration management system and the unfair distribution of resources. This highlights the severe challenges faced by the government in dealing with illegal immigration, promoting cultural integration, and maintaining public order.
