This paper explores the learning experiences of Chinese graduate students in the United States and the factors influencing their post-graduation destination choices. The study shows that an increasing number of Chinese graduate students in the U.S. choose to return to China after graduation, primarily because they perceive more opportunities at home. The research analyzes the factors affecting Chinese graduate students’ decisions to stay in the U.S. or return to China, including personal motivations, educational quality, career aspirations, social integration, and external influences. The study finds that the family’s emphasis on the quality of education also influences students’ career planning and final destination choices. The report also highlights that Chinese students in the U.S. face certain cultural and social barriers, such as cultural differences with local students, which may lead them to prefer socializing with other Chinese students. Additionally, when considering whether to return to China, students take into account the domestic economic environment and various preferential policies provided by the government. The report offers a series of recommendations, including that the U.S. should strengthen career development support for international students, improve living conditions, increase internship and employment opportunities, and actively address discrimination issues. On the other hand,China should further relax the hukou(household registration)system restrictions, improve the living environment, and provide more entrepreneurial support to attract more overseas students to return and develop in China. These measures can help balance international talent flow and promote academic exchange and cooperation between the two countries.
