Reducing embedded carbon emissions in buildings is crucial to achieving net-zero carbon emission goals. Currently，cities face multiple challenges in advancing the reduction of embedded carbon in buildings，including the lack of policies，regulations，and standardized methods in the planning，construction，and decommissioning phases. To address these challenges，nine cross-industry solutions encompassing three main themes have been implemented internationally. To achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals，reducing carbon emissions throughout the entire lifecycle of buildings should become a priority in urban construction in China. By adopting new building materials，enhancing building electrification，strengthening policy coordination across industries，and considering public health and economic benefits，tailored solutions that fit the specific urban context should be developed. This approach will help promote collective action by all stakeholders and support the comprehensive green transformation of the construction industry.
