In addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development, the Global Green Finance Development Index quantifies the performance of major global economies in policy, market, and international cooperation dimensions within the green finance sector. The index, designed to visually represent the development status of green finance, comprises an elaborate indicator system that includes 3 first-level indicators,6 second-level indicators,25 third-level indicators, and 52 fourth-level indicators—of which 36 are qualitative,12 quantitative,2 jointly qualitative and quantitative, and 2 semi-qualitative. It assesses the green finance development of 50 countries from three primary dimensions:policy and strategy, market and products, and international cooperation. To evaluate the index’s relevance, this study examines its correlation with selected exogenous factors, namely economic development and fiscal foundation, the level of financial market development, and the degree of openness. The findings for 2023 indicate that the global green finance development level is significantly positively correlated with economic development and fiscal foundation, exhibits a weak correlation with the level of financial market development, and shows no correlation with the degree of openness.
