This paper focuses on the competition and cooperation relationship and development trend between Beibu Gulf port and its surrounding ports. Through combing the theoretical basis of global port system，port competition and cooperation relationship and port and regional relationship，this paper selects the container port network of RCEP member countries as a case，and uses the centrality index to analyze the competitiveness of Beibu Gulf port in the shipping network. The study found that there are many problems in the competition and cooperation between the Beibu Gulf port and the surrounding ports：first，compared with some ports，there are gaps in the depth of the channel and the anchorage；second，the level of automation and intelligence of mechanical equipment needs to be improved，and the parking capacity of wharf berths is uneven. Third，compared with the world’s major ports，service efficiency and operational efficiency are insufficient；fourth，the direct economic hinterland is underdeveloped，and it faces competition from other ports in the hinterland economy and transportation. Fifth，there is a big gap between throughput，number of routes and coverage density with advanced ports. The Beibu Gulf port should clarify the strategic position of the international gateway port，implement the route coverage strategy，actively expand the trade routes to Russia，Latin America，etc.，and focus on the Vietnamese market；promote the hinterland expansion strategy，based in Guangxi，radiation surrounding provinces and cities；optimize the port transportation strategy，break the logistics information barrier，strengthen infrastructure construction，and build a shipping ecosystem service circle to enhance the competitiveness of the port，achieve sustainable development，and play a greater role in regional economy and global trade.
