The global rise of influencer marketing has brought about significant regulatory challenges while also driving the continued growth of this interdisciplinary field. Over the past five years, foreign research has not only delved into classic issues such as “transparency” and authenticity regulation but also compared and analyzed the evolution of different countries’ and regions’ regulatory frameworks. Furthermore,an increasing amount of research points out that the current narrow regulatory model focused on commercial attributes cannot overcome the regulatory difficulties posed by cross-domain influencers like political influencers. Closed regional regulatory systems limited to national boundaries are unable to regulate cross-border activities effectively, and punitive measures relying on reporting mechanisms struggle to generate substantial deterrent effects. Therefore, future attention should be given to the political, social, and cultural effects brought about by influencer marketing, international cooperation agendas for influencer regulation,as well as data-driven approaches in regulatory tools.
