As digitalization accelerates, digital self-tracking technology has penetrated various aspects of human life, enhancing individuals’ ability to collect, analyze, and apply behavioral data for knowledge production. This paper employs a bibliometric analysis to systematically examine the overseas communication research trends of digital self-tracking technology. Current research primarily focuses on four core areas:technology interaction and adaptability, intelligent materiality and self-monitoring,digital autonomy and the political economy of technology, and reflections on data capital and technological ethics. Initial studies concentrated on technology acceptance and user efficacy. As digital self-tracking technology is increasingly applied in various scenarios such as health monitoring, activity tracking, emotional logging, and work diaries, research focus has gradually shifted towards the political analysis of digital autonomy and data sharing, the study of technology integration into the ‘lived’ daily life, and transformations in individuals’ data self-awareness and behavior. This has sparked controversial discussions on data sovereignty, technological determinism, and social equity. Future research will focus on cross-cultural comparisons, data sovereignty and digital capitalism, the political economy of technology, and the design of policies and regulations, with a particular emphasis on how quantified-self technologies globally reshape the distribution of information, power, and resources.
