Affected by the weak global economy，economic and trade development between China and neighboring countries has been affected to a certain extent. China’s trade with neighboring countries has declined. China’s total exports to neighboring countries in 2023 reached US$1445.7 billion，a decrease of 0.6%. China’s total imports from neighboring countries were US$1301.3 billion，a decrease of 6.4%. Under the influence of factors such as China’s economic structural adjustment，the global economic situation，and the acceleration of ASEAN’s regional integration process，the growth rate of China’s imports and exports with ASEAN and East Asia has slowed down，but China’s imports and exports with Central Asia and the CIS have grown rapidly. China’s investment in neighboring countries in 2023 reached US$40.3 billion，mainly in ASEAN，West Asia and Central Asia. The investment structure has been adjusted. Outward investment in emerging service industries such as entertainment，logistics and technology has grown rapidly. Japan，the Republic of Korea，Singapore，Australia，and Saudi Arabia maintain a high growth momentum in investment in China. Although the current global economy is still affected by weak growth，geopolitics，climate and environmental risks，and policy uncertainty，there is still broad space for cooperation between China and neighboring countries. In 2024，the two sides will cooperate in frontier areas such as infrastructure，digital economy，and green development. Increase cooperation，jointly prevent the risk of economic and trade protectionism，strengthen cooperation in third-party markets，continue to promote the joint construction of “the Belt and Road”，and continuously release the potential of jointly building a “community with a shared future”.
