The Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City have undergone a complete spatial evolution, transforming from a “rural area” to a “suburban area,” then into an “urban village,” and ultimately becoming an “urban built-up area.” This transformation, along with significant social mobility, makes it an ideal case for exploring the protection, inheritance, and social development of large scale ruins. Furthermore,it provides universal insights applicable to the conservation and utilization of other large scale ruins and cultural heritage protection efforts across China. The study, guided by Marxist Spatial Sociology, addresses the dual objectives of protecting and inheriting the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City while fostering social development. It systematically examines the Ruins’ evolution from “competition” to “symbiosis” and introduces “social spatial dialectics” to analyze the intrinsic logic behind this transformation. By summarizing the universal experience of “cross-boundary governance,” the study aims to integrate theoretical explorations of large scale ruins protection into China’s specific realities and its rich traditional culture within the framework of urban and rural construction. This systematic exploration seeks to address key issues in cultural heritage protection and inheritance, such as preservation and utilization,as well as protection and development.
