In 2022,the ruling coalition in the Czech Republic emerged victorious in the local elections, with the Civic Democratic Party being the biggest winner. The registration of candidates for the upcoming presidential election was completed, with Petr Pavel emerging as the frontrunner. The Czech economy experienced a year-on-year growth of 2.4%,but inflation surged to 15.1%,the second-highest rate since 1993. The trade deficit observed throughout the year was influenced by energy prices and demand. The soaring energy prices and inflation also contributed to a significant increase in the fiscal deficit. In terms of diplomacy and security, the Czech Republic assumed the rotating presidency of the European Union in the latter half of the year, leading to deepened cooperation with the EU and NATO,while reducing its dependence on Russia. Following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict, the Czech Republic intensified its support for Ukraine and imposed sanctions on Russia. Socially and culturally, the sharp increase in energy prices and the influx of Ukrainian refugees triggered several large-scale protests. The results of the latest Czech census conducted in 2021 were announced, and eight new national cultural monuments were added to the country. In terms of relations with China, bilateral trade witnessed growth, but the new government implemented a shift in its foreign policy towards China. Some politicians continued to challenge China’s stance on the Taiwan question, which had a negative impact on bilateral relations.
