This report focuses on China’s publicly traded companies in 2023，providing a quantitative analysis of their overseas investments. The analysis is conducted across six key dimensions：the regions and sectors targeted for investment，the modes of investment employed，as well as the geographical distribution，industrial composition，and ownership structures of the invested enterprises. The data show that：in 2023，the total overseas investment of China’s listed companies continues to heat up，showing a growing trend；The investment areas are mainly those with obvious geographical advantages（Southeast Asia）and complementary advantages（Europe）. The investment areas are mainly focused on metals，equipment manufacturing and chemical industries and are diversified. The investment mode is mainly independent investment，capital increase and joint venture. The regional distribution of investment enterprises is not balanced，showing the characteristics of “more east and less west”；The investment enterprises mainly come from manufacturing industry；The types of investment enterprises are mainly private enterprises. Based on the analysis of typical enterprise cases，this report believes that in the post-epidemic era，in order to promote high-quality development of overseas investment，Chinese enterprises “going global” must rely on the development of “Belt and Road” and RCEP，and continue to pay attention to the existing mature markets. We will build a new pattern of regional economic cooperation with emphasis on key sectors of the national economy，diversified and balanced development of investment distribution，and the leading role of private enterprises. At the same time，we will align with high international standards and rules to ensure steady progress in foreign investment.
