The global maritime shipping and port industry serves as a crucial artery for international trade, with significant development observed in recent years. From 2014 to 2023,global maritime trade volume increased from 9.843 billion tons to 12.37 billion tons, reflecting a steady annual growth rate. The operational model of global ports is undergoing a transformation from traditional cargo handling to offering comprehensive logistics services, with an emphasis on sustainability and smart technologies emerging as key trends. The expansion of the global maritime industry extends beyond traditional shipping and port operations into burgeoning marine sectors and high-tech fields. Prominent marine industries, including offshore oil and gas extraction, marine fisheries, and marine tourism, provide substantial resources and economic benefits to coastal nations, while strategically emerging marine industries are becoming significant drivers of global maritime economic growth. Despite its pivotal role in the global economy, the shipping industry faces challenges such as environmental concerns, cyclical fluctuations, and increasing operational costs. To address these challenges and capitalize on opportunities, this paper proposes policy recommendations focusing on enhancing the green development of maritime shipping and ports, fostering technological innovation, promoting international cooperation, improving infrastructure, and advancing risk management.
