Over the course of a decade from 2011 to 2021，China has made significant strides in establishing a zero-carbon market，developing a relatively comprehensive carbon trading system and regulatory framework，while also creating new opportunities for green and low-carbon investment and financing that contribute to job creation. The China’s National Carbon Market has emerged as a crucial policy instrument for reducing greenhouse gas emissions cost-effectively and facilitating the transition towards a green and low-carbon economy. However，the effective functioning of this system requires ongoing adjustments，refinements，corrections，and enhancements. Currently，challenges within China’s National Carbon Market include insufficient institutional support for development，fluctuating policies and market expectations，complex data quality control processes，lackluster trading activity in the China’s National Carbon Market，irregularities in CCER procedures，and limited transparency. Moving forward，it is essential to steadily advance the expansion of China’s National Carbon Market by further standardizing operational processes to enhance transparency；fostering long-term stable expectations；and promoting mutual recognition of carbon markets along with related mechanisms with other countries or regions.
