In recent years,China’s electric vehicle industry has developed rapidly. Not only has the domestic market dominated the world, but it has also accelerated globalization, which has attracted great attention from the outside world to the development of China’s electric vehicles. On October 4,2023,the European Commission announced that it would officially launch an anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation against electric vehicles produced in China. The essence of this move is that the EU has taken a unilateral action out of a protectionist mentality to prevent Chinese car companies from entering the European market. This has harmed the legitimate interests of Chinese companies and is not conducive to the overall economic and trade exchanges between China and Europe. It is worth noting that France,a major European automobile country whose interests in the Chinese automobile market have been declining, played an important role in instigating the EU to launch this investigation. This article attempts to analyze the motivations, legality, and impact of France’s instigation of the EU to launch the investigation, and try to provide some useful thinking for solving the differences between China and France on the issue of electric vehicles.
