In 1985，the renowned French humorist and comedian Coluche proposed to create a free canteen aimed at providing food assistance to the needy，thus giving rise to the “Restos du Cœur”. With his sense of commoner consciousness，Coluche sought to make use of this platform to fight for all possible benefits and dignity for the disadvantaged. The Association has evolved beyond the typical image of a “restaurant” and has diversified its functions to make people’s lives better. Despite its success，the President of the Association issued a warning in 2023，indicating the danger of permanent closure. The bottleneck of development lies in the shortage of funds—despite receiving support from various sectors of society，the future remains uncertain. The dramatic increase in beneficiaries，the rise in operating costs，and the irrational income ratio contribute to the underlying financial issues，and an over-dependence on public donations in the income structure contains significant risks，necessitating further improvement within the association itself.
