In 2023,European societies continued to face significant issues concerning livelihoods, especially with inflation severely impacting the lives of people in various countries. Consequently, this led to widespread social protests, which in turn triggered substantial social policy reforms in many countries. Throughout the year, social movements were exceptionally active across the continent, with triggering factors including reforms in social welfare systems(particularly represented by French pension reform),anti-war sentiments, rights, environmental issues, etc. The governance of refugee and illegal immigration issues continued to place greater pressure on European societies in 2023. However, despite this challenging situation, the EU and member states made significant progress in addressing these issues, particularly in terms of political consensus and institutional frameworks. Moreover, populism continued to spread across European societies, exerting significant influence in various countries. Notably significant were the ongoing polarization of public opinion and the political advancements of certain populist forces, which brought about negative impact that cannot be overlooked on the stability of European society.
