During The Great Age of Discovery,Europe’s exploration of exotic lands became frequent, and China was undoubtedly an important destination. During this process, the rising of exotic geography greatly expanded Europeans’ perception of the outsider world, various exotic geographical prints conveyed information about China to European viewers. At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, there was a major shift in visual China in European exotic geography, which freed from the illusions of Marco Polo’s time and changed the situation that images about China were made solely by literature descriptions on that time. This article argues that the direct cause of this change was export porcelain, before a large number of porcelains arrived in Europe brought by VOC,the images in the surface of export porcelain had entered the system of exotic geography, which had a long-term impact on the visual China made by Europeans. In this article, the author tends to emphasize export porcelain as an image medium and explore its important role in cultural exchange.
