The relationship between Tang and Ming poetry was an important topic in the “Tang-Song Poetry Controversy” in the Edo period of Japan. On the one hand,it is a continuation of the phenomenon of “Matching Tang-Ming poetry” in the Ming and Qing dynasties;on the other hand, due to the “similarity” of Tang and Ming poems, how to separate the two of form, language, tone and other aspects has became a problem that had to be solved in the poetry circle of the late Edo period. The discussions of Tang and Ming poems deepened the Edo poetry world’s understanding of Chinese poetry, and gradually shifted the debate between Tang and Song poems from periodism to stylism, promoting the localisation of Chinese poetry in Japan.
