The planning and construction of the Northern Metropolitan Area is a major strategic adjustment in Hong Kong’s development over the past century. It signifies that Hong Kong has a “local platform” for integrating into the national development strategy，which has far-reaching implications for Hong Kong’s development，cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong，and the construction of the Greater Bay Area. In particular，the Northern Metropolitan Area is separated from the southern region of Shenzhen only by a river，naturally possessing the foundation and advantages for integrated development，creating tremendous space and opportunities for future cooperation and urbanization between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. This article outlines the development strategy of the Northern Metropolitan Area，analyzes the significance and challenges of its construction，and proposes strategies for Shenzhen to connect with the construction of the Northern Metropolitan Area.
