In 2023，the persistent high inflation which had haunted Italy eased. Nevertheless，prices remained at high level. Thanks to the growth of employment and a slight increase in income，Italians’ purchasing power have slightly improved. However，youth unemployment remained a worrying issue，and over 2 million poor families were in urgent need of help. Despite limited funds，the Meloni Government adopted diversified measures to support families and individuals with various difficulties. In the disaster relief and reconstruction in Emilia-Romagna，the Italian government formulated a comprehensive and reasonable plan. However，the implementation was not very satisfactory. The Central Mediterranean Route witnessed a new climax of smuggling，and over 150 thousand irregular migrants landed in Southern Italy，causing great pressure on the local society. However，considering the enormous development gap between the origin countries and the EU countries，as well as Italy’s constant demand for foreign labors，Italy’s attractiveness to migrant workers will be unlikely to decrease. At the end of 2023，European Commission allocated the fourth of the PNRR fund to Italy，which is expected to contribute significantly to the economic development and improvement of people’s livelihood in 2024.
