This study examined the existing library books and the literature of the Edo period regarding Yang Shen, the purpose of which is to explore the process of dissemination, publication and acceptance of academic notes in the Ming Dynasty during the Edo period in Japan, from the perspective of book sharing. With the help of frequently merchant ship trade,Yang Shen’s works were widely spread in the Edo period. In addition to many Ming and Qings’ editions, there were also various manuscripts and block-printed editions, which generally had the characteristics of large time span and variety of versions. Judging from the cognition and acceptance process of Japanese scholars’ to Yang Shen’s theory,Japanese scholars have already pay attention to the study of Confucian classics in Ming Dynasty and also absorb new interpretations from it in an early period. That’s directly affected the development of Confucianism in the Edo period. On the other hand, influenced by many factors, the acceptance process of Yang Shen’s works and the academics of the Ming Dynasty was “tortuous” and “one-sided” in Japan, and thus lead to the results of “misreading” and “elucidation” were,on some level, triggered self-realization of ideology and culture in Japan. This also reconfirms the rationality of the Japanese “semi-periphery” theory of Kojin Karatani from another angle.
