Saudi Arabia’s media industry is known for strict government control. Despite this，many Saudi media outlets are privately owned and able to walk a fine line between compliance and communicating diverse ideas and opinions. With warming Sino-Saudi ties over recent years，the Saudi media has been watching China more closely and increased its positive coverage of China’s Belt and Road Initiative，with it’s biggest concern being bilateral economic cooperation. Chinese media outlets in Saudi Arabia have seized the opportunity to expand their own influence，which，to an extent，has turned the tables on Western media，which traditionally dominated the Saudi public opinion arena in the field of international journalism.
