The year 2023 is the year when Indonesia assumes the presidency of ASEAN，and it is also a crucial year for Timor-Leste to become a full member of ASEAN. The history of Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN deserves a comprehensive discussion and summary. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the development of Timor-Leste’s relationship with ASEAN in terms of the history and conditions of ASEAN’s expansion，the historical process of Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN，the pros and cons of the accession，and the future relationship between Timor-Leste and ASEAN，with a view to analysing Timor-Leste’s future status or influence in ASEAN，as well as the potential opportunities and challenges facing the admission of Timor-Leste to ASEAN.
