The year 2022 witnessed a complicated situation in the international prospects. Different countries in Oceania have also ushered in different development trends with their own characteristics. Economically,Australia and New Zealand were struggling to shake off the negative impact of the pandemic, while the economies of pacific island countries were showing signs of recovery. At the same time, economic and trade exchanges between China and Oceania have been slowly heating up,which became an important stimulus factor for the improvement of regional economy. On the political aspect,Australia experienced a change of its government, while New Zealand’s Labor government was clearly challenged in holding its power. Meanwhile, several pacific island countries held general elections, which, while generally smooth, also led to some internal violence. Just like in 2021,great power competition still affected the regional countries’diplomatic inclinations. Oceania continued to become an emerging hot spot in international politics, and countries in the region showed different trends in dealing with foreign affairs. On the whole, the regional countries’ diplomatic autonomy has been strengthened.
