彭树智先生的“文明交往论”体现了一种“文明交往的生态史观”，即人类社会与自然生态的交往是所有文明的历史进程的必经之路，是历史发展的动力，也是人类社会实现文明自觉、达成天人和谐的途径。“文明交往的生态史观”能在一定程度上解决当前环境史研究存在的问题：首先，避免了自然与社会的二元分立；其次，为环境史研究提出了新的研究角度，提供了一种理论架构，展现了更宏观的研究视角；最后，为环境史增添了新的叙事模式。此外，“文明交往的生态史观”为中东环境史揭示了学术价值和现实意义，指出了“文明交往的单位、方式以及内容”的研究主题，并指明了“全球史”的研究视角。
Mr.Peng Shuzhi’s “Theory of Interaction of Civilizations” which embodies an “Ecological View of History of Civilization Exchanges”，is that the interaction between human society and natural ecology is the only way for the historical process of all civilizations，and the driving force of historical development，furthermore the way to realize civilization consciousness and achieve harmony between man and nature. The “Ecological History View of Civilization Interaction” can solve the problems existing in the current Environmental History research to a certain extent：firstly，it avoids the binary separation of nature and society；secondly，it puts forward a new research perspective for the study of Environmental History，and it also provides a theoretical framework and shows a more macro research perspective；finally，it adds a new narrative mode to Environmental History. In addition，the “Ecological History View of Civilization Interaction” reveals the academic value and practical significance for the Middle East Environmental History，which points out the research theme of “the unit，method and content of civilization exchange”，and the research perspective of “Global History”.
