Scrutinizing the long history of the myrobalan tree and its fruit reveals how this wonderful drug lies at the intersection between the realms of pharmacology，trade routes，and religious imagination. Its convoluted transmission routes can nevertheless be partially retraced throughout Eurasia especially into China，in particular thanks to medical knowledge preserved in Indian sources，and through documents about trade and historical records kept in several Asian nations. This article attempts to reconstruct some of the many Eurasian transmission routes through which the myrobalan traveled，by focusing on its linguistic trail.
