18世纪末，安南国内发生巨变，中兴黎朝内部的南阮北郑势力先后崩溃，西山阮朝崛起，旋即又为阮福映所灭。出身黎朝进士的郑王忠臣阮嘉璠精通医术，经历了郑主、中兴黎朝、西山阮朝、阮朝数股政治势力，多次陷入困境，又因医术获得当政者青睐。阮嘉璠总结医术和医籍，积极疗治，晚年撰成关于妇科、儿科和瘟疫的医书，成为越南古代传统医学的重要财富。
At the end of the 18th century，there are political unrest in Annam. After Nguyen and Trinh lords died，Nguyen Hue built a new dynasty named Tay Son，but Nguyen Phuc Anh destroyed Tay Son Dynasty in several years then built Nguyen Dynasty. The physician Nguyen Gia Phan who was distinguished Jinshi（Tien Si） and fighted for Trinh Lords. During the upheaval of Annam，Nguyen Gia Phan worked for several political forces and suffered honor and humiliation successively. In the process，he also cured patients of diseases and compiled medical books about gynaecelogy，paediatrics and plague. These books had great values for Vietnam.
