Canton was besieged and captured for the second time by Manchu army led by Generals Shang Kexi and Geng Jimao in November，1650. Portuguese Jesuit Álvaro Semedo was in Canton and wrote down what he saw，heard，and experienced personally. There are very few Chinese primary sources on this historical event，thus Semedo’s report is extremely important for us to know the details of this Manchu capture. Now we translate and annotate this valuable manuscript to benefit the study of history of Ming-Qing dynastic transition and history of Canton.
