自19世纪以来，太平洋地区进入了欧美国家的视野，英、德、美、法等国家纷纷在此抢夺势力范围。欧美殖民者到来的同时也带来了欧美文化。就萨摩亚而言，欧美文化对萨摩亚民族发展的影响是在基督教进入以后，主要在社会、政治和经济三个层面，对萨摩亚民族发展产生影响。一是社会文化层面，以基督教影响为主要特征，对萨摩亚人的学校教育、风俗习惯，以及萨摩亚语言和传统建筑风格产生影响；二是政治文化层面，或被动适应，或主动接受欧美政治文化；三是经济文化层面，欧美商人为萨摩亚带来了贸易的观念，形成了货币贸易和契约劳工。通过对三个层面的文化影响进行探究，以期探索欧美文化对萨摩亚民族发展产生的影响。
Since the 19th century，the Pacific Ocean has entered the vision of European and American countries，Britain，Germany，the United States，France and other countries grabbed colonies. When European and American colonists arrived，they also brought European and American culture. As far as Samoa is concerned，the influence of European and American culture on the national development of Samoa was not until Christianity entered the country. It has exerted an influence on the development of the Samoan nation from three aspects：society，politics and economy：First，on the social level，its influenced on Samoan’s school education，custom，language and traditional architecture，mainly characterized by Christian influence. Second，on the political level，Samoan or passive adaptation，or active acceptance of European and American political culture；Third，on the economic level，European and American merchants brought the concept of trade for Samoa，forming currency trade and indentured labor. By studying these 3 aspects，we hope to explore the influence of European and American culture on the development of the Samoan nation.
